B-to-b media M&A activity increases

New York--Acquisition activity among trade publications and trade shows in the United States showed a slight uptick in the second quarter, according to Whitestone Communications, which tracks merger and acquisition activity for its annual reference book, "Who’s Buying Whom."

Whitestone reported five deals for the second quarter, compared with four in the year-earlier quarter.

The aggregate value of the deals was $44 million, up from $39 million in the second quarter of 2002. Whitestone did not identify the deals.

The trend in business media acquisitions, which saw slightly more but smaller deals, bucked the overall trend in media deals, which saw fewer but larger deals, according to Whitestone.
