B-to-b Super Bowl ads lag behind in AOL poll

Chicago--B-to-b Super Bowl ads are making a poor showing in an online poll conducted by AOL in the wake of Sunday’s football and advertising extravaganza.

With more than 1 million votes cast, the leading b-to-b spot was Staples’ “It Was Easy,” which featured an office supply manager extorting doughnuts from co-workers in exchange for paper clips and the like. The Staples spot was in 21st place on Monday morning.

FedEx Corp.’s “Jenkins” spot, featuring an alien who understands the power of overnight delivery, placed 29th.

IBM Corp.’s “Prodigy III” spot promoting Linux and featuring Muhammad Ali placed 40th. IBM could take comfort in placing just ahead of Microsoft Corp.’s “School.” Anheuser-Busch had the top six places in the poll, with Budweiser and Bud Light spots. “Donkey,” about a donkey that wants to be a Clydesdale, nailed down the top spot.
