B-to-b Web site investment to reach $10 billion by 2004

Peterborough, N.H.--Belying gloom and doom economic outlooks, ActivMedia Research L.L.C. said b-to-b Web sites are investing heavily in marketing, infrastructure and e-procurement, and that sales for b-to-b software will reach $10 billion by 2004. Also, new initiatives--both pure-play and bricks-and-clicks--are still being launched, as the percentage of b-to-b Web sites that had been in business for less than a year rose from 32% in 2000 to 38% so far 2001, according to the research company. "The Internet has proven its great potential as a driving force'' for commerce, customer service and public relations, said Chris Anne Wheeler, ActivMedia Research's VP-information services.
