Dallas—The trade show industry showed positive results in the first quarter, according to the CEIR Index, a metric created by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research to measure the performance of the exhibition sector.
The CEIR Index showed a 2.7% gain in the first quarter compared with the year-earlier period. The first-quarter '12 performance marks the seventh consecutive period of growth marked by the index, which measures professional attendance, number of exhibitors, net square footage and revenue.
Professional attendance posted a 4.6% gain in the first quarter compared with the year-earlier period. “This is a very good indicator that the exhibition industry is clearly emerging from the recession and may begin to see consistent growth for the foreseeable future,” said CEIR President-CEO Doug Ducate in a statement.
Net square footage (3.4%), exhibitors (1.5%) and revenue (1.5%) also increased in the first quarter.
