Framingham, Mass.--International Data Group’s CIO magazine Friday released the results of its December Tech Poll, which found that CIOs, on average, plan to increase spending 6.0% over the next 12 months.

That was up from the 4.2% average increase in spending predicted in the November poll.

“As chief information officers head into the new year, nearly half report a significant application backlog. There’s a lot of work to be done,” said Gary Beach, CIO’s group publisher, in a statement.

Additionally, the poll respondents said IT budgets increased by an average of 3.2% over the previous 12 months, a slight decline from the 3.9% increase reported in the November poll.
