Quick Chase: The No. 1 rule when hiring a pitchman is: Be sure that he's pitching your product, not someone else's. At first glance, you would think that British Open champ Padraig Harrington is singing the praises of Wilson Staff, a famous brand in the golf business. Enveloping the Wilson Staff cap on Harrington's head are the headlines: "Quality—guaranteed. … It takes proven quality to win a major golf tournament." Wilson Staff no doubt appreciates the compliment. Problem is, Wilson Staff didn't pay for the space. It was paid for by U4EA Technologies. The company name goes well beyond clever and into the realm of amateurish. If you look hard enough, you'll note the U4EA logo on the right shoulder of Harrington's sweater. The logo is more prominent in the bottom right-hand corner, but that's the last thing readers typically see.
Clue: Assuming this isn't a co-op ad between U4EA and Wilson Staff, we'd say U4EA left some money on the table.
