Custom publishing takes on larger role

New York--Custom publishing is a growing part of U.S. companies' marketing efforts, according to a new survey conducted by the Publishing & Media Group and commissioned by the Magazine Publishers of America's Custom Publishing Council. The survey indicates custom publishing expenditures will increase 10.4% this year compared with 1999. The 1999 survey estimated the size of the custom publishing industry was more than $1 billion, with nearly $700 million spent by third-party advertisers. Custom publications, according to the survey, include a variety of media such as print, Web sites, e-mail, audio/video and CD-ROMs.
