Cygnus sells industrial magazines to Alliance Communications and Source360 Media

Fort Atkinson, Wis.—Cygnus Business Media announced the sale of Fabricating & Metalworking to Alliance Communications, and of Industrial Machinery Digest and the Total Industrial Plant Solutions advertising deck to Source360 Media. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Alliance Communications and Source360 Media were both established by longtime Cygnus executives who headed the respective publications for many years.

Tony Morrison, who founded Alliance Communications, helped launch Fabricating & Metalworking more than a decade ago.

“Fabricating & Metalworking has one of the industry’s strongest communities, with the largest circulation of any publication covering metalforming, welding, metalcutting, tooling and workholding, inspection and safety in every issue,” Morrison said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for the brand and Alliance Communications.”

William Strickland, founder of Source360 Media, has managed Industrial Machinery Digest for several years. The publication reaches job shops, machine shops, fabricating shops, machinery dealers and wholesalers, pipe and tube manufacturers, industrial warehouses and distribution centers, and retrofitting and rebuilding machine maintenance operations.

“I have enjoyed working at Cygnus Business Media, but as the affinity groups were being created, we recognized an opportunity,” Strickland said. “Tony and I approached management about the possibility of our purchasing the brands rather than allowing them to possibly be acquired by another company. There are enormous possibilities for Tony and me to grow these brands, and I feel fortunate to be given this opportunity.”

Cygnus recently announced a new organizational architecture that consists of four affinity networks: Aviation, Construction, Public Safety & Security, Agriculture and Diversified titles.

“Business media continues to be a strong buy for those seeking to reach top decision-makers in very specific networks,” Cygnus President Mike Martin said in a statement. “Tony and William have significant experience and knowledge in the industry, and I have no doubt they will be leaders in the b-to-b media transformation of their marketplace.”
