D&B to lay off 550

Short Hills, N.J.--Business data provider D&B said it will lay off 550 people, or 7.9% of its work force, by July in an effort to "increase shareholder value." It will take a one-time $16 million pre-tax charge in connection with the layoffs. Also, the president of D&B Europe, Bruno de la Riviere, resigned to pursue other interests, and the company is negotiating the sale of its U.K. headquarters building in High Wycombe.
