Digital asset management industry still highly fragmented, says CMS Watch

Boston, Mass.—Digital asset management technology has made significant strides but remains a highly fragmented and specialized industry in which customers are forsaking “name” players in favor of niche or hosted solutions, according to a study released Friday by CMS Watch, which evaluates content technologies.

The “Digital & Media Asset Management Report 2008” evaluates 18 major digital and media asset management suppliers based on technology research and interviews with customers from a number of industries.

The report found that enterprises and vendors are working to integrate digital asset management into an array of business services—including marketing campaigns, catalog production and broadcast video management—but that integrating marketing tools with larger enterprise platforms is a major challenge.
