EMarketer lowers online ad forecast

New York—Internet research firm eMarketer lowered its U.S. online ad spending forecast to $24.9 billion this year, down from an earlier projection of $25.9 billion in March.

Even with the lowered forecast, online ad spending will increase 17.4% over last year, according to eMarketer.

The revision was made based on weak economic conditions, according to the research firm.

By 2010, online ad spending will reach $33.5 billion, and by 2013 it will total $59.0 billion, according to the forecast.

EMarketer also projects that TV ad spending will increase by 7.1% this year but decrease 2.6% next year before resuming growth of 1% in 2010 and 2% in 2011.
