Enterprise security market shows steady growth

Palo Alto, Calif.--The enterprise security market is expected to be $2.9 billion this year and grow to $6.6 billion by 2008, according to a study by the Radicati Group.

The market includes certificate authorities, vendors of e-mail encryption solutions, enterprise smart cards, and antivirus and antispam products. E-mail encryption, the fastest-growing segment, is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 71% over the next four years, from $34 million this year to $287 million in 2008.

Revenues for e-mail antiphishing vendors are expected to be $153 million this year and grow to $668 million by 2008.

Earlier this month, Radicati said “phishing” attacks--fraudulent e-mails designed to look as if they come from legitimate marketers in order to get users to divulge personal information--are expected to grow exponentially over the next several years.
