Exec outlines logical shipping strategy

Randy Boettcher was recently named VP-strategice-commerce alliances at ShipLogix Inc., a provider of Web-based transportation management for shippers, carriers and b-to-b marketplaces. He was most recently VP-director of sales, planning and development for The Procyon Group Inc., a systems integration and consulting company specializing in supply chain management, logistics and transportation.

BtoB: What are your goals in your new position?

Boettcher: My long-term goal is to expand the base that we have so that we become the de facto standard for transportation management at the Internet b-to-b level. We're looking at an affiliates program with Commerce One, and we're looking at other people who are defining the front-end process so that they bring us in to do what their customers need.

BtoB: What's developing in this space in terms of e-commerce?

Boettcher: If you look at transportation in general, there's the Tier One-type people; then, if you look at the midmarkets below that … their transportation management systems are not very robust. Even the Fortune 1000 companies are looking to [application service] providers to provide functionality on the reduced cost basis. So moving to the ASP model broadens the number of people you can reach.
