Food and beverage giants create consumer products hub

Forty-nine of the world's largest food and beverage companies Wednesday debuted Transora, an e-marketplace for the consumer products industry. The market's participants reads like a who's-who list: Coca-Cola Co., Kraft Foods Inc., Procter & Gamble Co., Sara Lee Corp. and Unilever, among others. Together, the companies are investing $250 million in the effort, and pledging to move the bulk of their $300 billion in annual spending to the marketplace. Chicago-based Transora will focus on procurement, online order management, supply chain collaboration and financial services, debuting in the fourth quarter of this year.
