Global Knowledge taps first CMO

Cary, N.C.--In a deal that underscores the increased emphasis consulting firms are placing on marketing, Global Knowledge Network Inc. tapped Rick Thompson as its first chief marketing officer. Thompson joined Global Knowledge, the world's largest independent IT consultancy, last October as VP-corporate marketing. Prior to that, he was worldwide product and marketing manager of the Aptiva consumer line at IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y. In his new role, he will oversee all of Global Knowledge's marketing, including strategic planning, advertising, corporate communications, public relations and Web-based marketing initiatives.
