Grey employees commemorate Sept. 11

One granite section of the pavement in front of Grey Advertising's headquarters on Third Avenue read, "And Crown Thy Good With Brotherhood," along with a pastel chalk drawing of a gold crown. Other squares in the checkerboard were simply colored in black chalk.

Steve Blamer, president of Grey Worldwide New York, came up with the idea to give employees colored chalk and allow them to contribute to the concrete quilt mosaic Wednesday.

"He just wanted to give employees an opportunity to express their feelings for the day," said Jan Sneed, a Grey spokeswoman.

Several onlookers had gathered by mid-morning as employees on hands and knees drew feverishly or filled in the remaining red stripes in squares depicting the American Flag. "The nice thing is that people from different divisions and all levels of the company have taken an opportunity to contribute," Sneed said. Partner companies such as Grey Direct and Mediacom also were invited to participate.
