IBM, AstraZeneca in $1.7B IT deal

Armonk, N.Y.--In a $1.7 billion deal, IBM Corp. will begin to manage nearly all of London-based AstraZeneca plc's IT systems. IBM will oversee AstraZeneca's PC management services at all of its offices around the globe. As part of the deal, some 1,200 AstraZeneca employees will move to IBM. The deal is a boon for AstraZeneca, which will be able to concentrate on its core business of developing and marketing its high-profile drug brands, which include Xylocaine, Nolvadex and Pulmicort.
