‘iMarketing News’ shuts down

New York--In yet another sign of the ongoing contraction among Web-related publications, Courtenay Communications Corp. said Monday that it is shutting down iMarketing News and merging the newspaper into sister publication DM News.

iMarketing News launched as a monthly in September 1999, went to a weekly cycle in early 2000 amid the dot-com boom and was reduced to a monthly late last year before finally falling victim to the ad slump. It had a circulation of 40,000.

The shutdown of iMarketing News "is not because of the failure of the Internet but its acceptance," said Adrian Courtenay, founder-CEO of Courtenay Communications. "Internet marketing is now part of the overall marketing mix for companies of all stripes."

Three people—the publisher and two editorial staff members—were let go. As a result of the shutdown of iMarketing News, the weekly DM News will get a circulation boost to 50,000 from 40,000. All of iMarketing News’ Web-based products will be available through the DM News Web site.
