LinkedIn introduces socially informed ad units

Mountain View, Calif.—Professional networking site LinkedIn has introduced a new ad unit that reflects the content of a user's other social networks to serve more relevant ads to individual users. According to LinkedIn, the new social ads displayed on users' LinkedIn home pages will be focused on personal actions such as recommendations and company follows in order to deliver better-targeted ads. The personalized LinkedIn ads will initially be rolled out to a small number of community members as part of a limited release. LinkedIn is following in the footsteps of Facebook and Twitter, which also serve ads informed by the recommendations and actions of a user's social network.
