Magazine launches, closures down in first half of year

New York—Magazine launches and closures both slowed in the first half of the year, according to, an online database of U.S. and Canadian publications. In the first six months of the year, 97 magazines debuted, down 27% from 133 in the same period last year; 29 magazines ceased publication, down 40% from 48 closures in the year-earlier period. Fourteen new b-to-b magazine titles launched in the first half of this year, down 33% from 21 in the same period last year; nine b-to-b titles closed, a slight increase over the eight magazines that closed in the year-earlier period.
