MB Media denies actively shopping former RBI construction titles

Chicago—Rick Blesi, president of MB Media, the owner of Construction Equipment, Professional Builder and other brands acquired from Reed Business Information’s construction media group, disputed reports that he and Tony Mancini, MB Media’s CEO, are actively shopping the titles they acquired last month. A published report said that MB Media had approached Cygnus Business Media looking to sell the construction titles.

“I assure you we have not initiated a single one of the dozens of conversations we have had with suitors, including Cygnus,” Blesi said.

He also disputed the characterization that MB Media doesn’t have the capital to operate the business. “We are fully capitalized to go ourselves; but, if bolting on makes our success faster or more certain, it would be unfair to the brands not to consider a strategic partner,” Blesi said, adding, “We just want to do what’s right for the brands or we would have flipped them and gone to the beach.”

Flipping the titles would not be unprecedented. After Dan Hogan, publisher of Hotels magazine, acquired that title and related properties from Reed Business Information, he sold the brands to the Marketing & Technology Group last month.
