McCann buys promo firm for Momentum

St. Louis--Marking the continued consolidation of the sales promotion industry, McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, New York, said late Monday that it would acquire Waylon Co. Inc. for an undisclosed sum. Waylon, which includes such clients as Gateway Computer and Anheuser-Busch Inc., bills about $110 million annually. The company, which has about 90 employees, will be merged in McCann-Erickson's St. Louis-based Momentum Worldwide. The purchase comes as sales promotion companies are targeting the Web as a sales and distribution channel. It is believed the highly fragmented sales promotion industry will continue to consolidate as Web technologies make larger operations more efficient.
