Media innovation continues to surge

This issue celebrates innovation in our industry with an exclusive group of Top Innovators in Business Publishing. This year's group, starting with CEOs David Levin of United Business Media and Andy Weber of Farm Journal Media, are as good as we have ever had. Since our inaugural Top Innovators program seven years ago, when we honored, among others, IDG founder Patrick McGovern, the b-to-b media industry has evolved in ways that were never easy to predict. We didn't even know at the time there would be mobile apps, virtual trade shows and social media. What this year's winners share—whether they run a company, a brand or a department—is the drive to transform companies with rich print legacies into ones that offer a full array of events, virtual events, digital apps, mobile platforms, integrated databases, reader voices and blogs. And whether they serve financial investment companies, tech businesses, manufacturers or farmers, they all bring a tremendous amount of success to the industry and help show us the way to the future. Of course, there are many others out there, in all segments of media, whose efforts are not cited here but who will rise to the top and keep our industry strong and successful for decades to come. I think you'll agree those we are honoring this year are all top-flight innovators.
