Business publications' ad revenue up slightly

Advertising revenue for business publications grew 1.18% though April compared with the same time period in 2005, according to figures released by American Business Media's Business Information Network (BIN). The strongest ad revenue categories through April were aviation, aerospace and military (up 13.3%), and banking, financial and insurance (up 9.4%). Some of the weaker ad categories included transportation and logistics (down 6.7%) and science, research and development (down 6.1%). Ad pages fell 0.68% in the first four months of this year. Ad revenue increased 2.9% in April compared with April 2005, while ad pages rose 1.5%.

'NYT' to sell ads on 'Business Day' front

The New York Times will sell advertisements on the front page of its "Business Day" section, the newspaper reported. The ads will appear in a strip along the bottom of the page. Bill Keller, the newspaper's executive editor, reportedly told newsroom employees that The New York Times is considering cost-saving measures, including shrinking the width of the newspaper.

Grand View Media acquires NTP Media

Grand View Media Group has acquired NTP Media. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. NTP has three publishing groups that serve audiences in the buildings and facility maintenance and management markets. Grand View General Manager Barry Lovette said the company plans to leave all NTP operations and staff in their current location in Latham, N.Y.

Simmons-Boardman buys Davison Publishing

In a merger of two of the nation's oldest business publishers, Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corp. has acquired the assets of Davison Publishing Co. Financial terms were not disclosed. Davison, which will continue to be based in Orlando, Fla., produces seven annual directories serving the textile, fence, commercial marine, tile and corrugated box and folding carton industries. Simmons-Boardman publishes seven trade magazines, including Railway Age, Railway Track & Structures and Marine Log . Both publishers trace their roots to the second half of the 19th century.
