Microsoft picks Clarus' purchasing software

Atlanta--Clarus Corp. received a big boost Tuesday as Microsoft Corp.'s accounting software division named its purchasing software as its preferred system for buying online. Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft's Great Plains Business Solutions said it will sell the software to more than 2,000 resellers, and offer it as a hosted purchasing system on the Internet. Clarus competes with such companies as Ariba Inc. and Commerce One Inc. Shares of Clarus' stock rose more than 8% in the hours following the announcement.
