Mobile payments projected to see rapid growth

Scottsdale, Ariz.—Mobile payments, those payments made from or with a mobile handset, are poised to make a huge jump over the next four years, according to a report released by In-Stat. The report, “Mobile Payments Worldwide: Is the Market Ready?”, projects that mobile payment users will total more than 375 million in 2015, up from 116 million last year.

“If mobile operators are able to push beyond the infrastructural challenges and introduce these services to the mass market, the transactional value of the mobile payments market is positioned to grow nearly tenfold over the next several years,” Amy Cravens, an In-Stat market analyst, said in a statement.
