Mountain View, Calif.—Google has announced it will begin to monetize the mobile version of its YouTube video sharing site with banner ads.

The ads will be sold on a “full-day basis” on the American and Japanese YouTube home, search and browser mobile sites, according to Google. Google added that mobile traffic to YouTube increased 160% last year over the previous year.

Early tests with mobile ads for such brands as L’Oreal and Land Rover “showed strong results related to click-throughs, user experience and brand awareness,” Google said in a statement.
