Monster to buy Yahoo’s HotJobs employment site

New York—Monster Worldwide, which owns the employment Web site, plans to acquire Yahoo HotJobs for $225 million in cash.

As part of the deal, Monster will become the provider of career and job content on the Yahoo home page in the U.S. and Canada for three years. The deal, which is subject to federal approval, is expected to close in the third quarter.

Both job sites also have agreements with newspapers; HotJobs’ network of more than 600 daily and weekly newspapers will be added to Monster’s 400, giving Monster a local print and online job board presence in all 50 states.

Last month Yahoo sold its e-mail technology division, Zimbra, to computer virtualization company VMware Inc. Financial terms of that deal were not disclosed.
