Reed promotes executives in `Variety' and `EDN' groups

Reed Business Information has promoted Charlie Koones to president of the Variety Group from exec VP of the group. He will continue in his role as publisher of Variety. Also, Reed announced the promotion of Stephen Moylan to president of the company's Boston Division. Moylan will also serve as chairman of the Reed Electronics Group. He will continue in his current role as publisher of EDN Worldwide. Moylan filled the vacancy created by the promotion of former Boston Division president Marianne van Leeuwen, who has been appointed CEO of RBI-US' sister company, RBI-NL, based in Amsterdam.

Watt Publishing hires Ogilvy's Smith as chief financial officer

Watt Publishing Co. announced that Timothy Smith has joined the company as VP-CFO. He succeeds Robert Bowers, who retired. Prior to joining Watt, Smith was CFO of Ogilvy, Chicago.

`Forbes' announces promotion of advertising directors

Kevin Gentzel has been promoted to VP-advertising at Forbes, from national advertising director. Also, Jennifer Cooke was promoted to group advertising director-East for the magazine.

Ascend Media names Primedia's Fogarty as VP-production

Ascend Media announced that Tom Fogarty has joined the company in the new position of VP-production. He most recently held the same title at Primedia Business Magazines & Media.

CMP's Channel Group elevates `CRN,' `VARBusiness' execs

CMP Media's Channel Group announced several promotions. Robert DeMarzo moved from VP-editorial director of VARBusiness to VP-publisher. Dan Dignam has been promoted to publisher of CRN, from associate publisher of VARBusiness. Dignam is being succeeded by Jeannie Cappo, the magazine's Western regional sales manager.

Dow Jones Integrated Solutions taps sales talent

Dow Jones & Co.'s Dow Jones Integrated Solutions named Matthew Ellsworth sales development director and Andrea Beecher sales director. Ellsworth most recently was associate business development director at Business 2.0. Beecher most recently was advertising promotion director for The New York Times. Both will report to Matthew Goldberg, executive director of DJIS.
