Newspapers see falling online ad spending in Q3

Arlington, Va.—For the second straight quarter, online advertising expenditures in newspapers declined, according to figures compiled by the Newspaper Association of America. Third-quarter online ad expenditures totaled $749.8 million, down 3.0% from $773.0 million in the year-earlier period. Online ad expenditures decreased 2.4% in the second quarter.

Overall, newspaper ad revenue declined a record 18.1%, or almost $2 billion, in the third quarter.
