Nov. 1 Burlingame, Calif.—Search engines, content aggregators, and subscription service providers and distributors will garner $59.6 billion in revenue by 2008, according to a forecast by Outsell, a research company that follows the information industry.

The researcher released the findings Tuesday in its premier “I-Market MarketView, Search, Aggregation & Distribution Services Segment 2005” report.

Revenue projections are $37.6 billion in 2005. Outsell contends this segment of the information industry will grow 18% in 2005 and achieve a 17% compound annual growth rate from 2005 through 2008.

The researcher said so-called “disruptive” companies such as Google and Yahoo! have propelled the segment to a 20.5% growth rate by making previously inaccessible content available to millions of users and, ultimately, enabled the scaling of the Web.
