Pearson's goes from free to fee

London--Facing increasing pressure to stem losses from online ventures, Pearson plc's flagship Financial Times announced plans Tuesday to charge for access to its Web site. The newspaper joins a growing list of titles forced to charge for subscriptions as advertising dries up. Launched in 1996 as a free service, will charge readers $110 or $300 a year, depending on the level of subscription, starting next month.
