Penton closes Fire Chief magazine and related products

New York—Penton has closed the Fire Chief brand, which includes a 57-year-old publication, a website and supplementary products and events. “Many factors have contributed to the decision to close, including the publishing industry's steady transition to digital, the economy, and the decline in ad revenue that most publishers are facing,” wrote Janet Wilmoth, associate publisher, in a blog post. A Penton spokeswoman said the decision to close Fire Chief “was specific to this franchise, not part of any larger plans” to eliminate media brands. Six staff positions were eliminated as a result of the Fire Chief shutdown.
