Postal Service approves 5.4% rate hike

Washington, D.C.—As expected, the U.S. Postal Service’s independent Postal Rate Commission on Tuesday approved a 5.4% across the board rate increase.

The USPS said the increase will take effect in early 2006. It will be the first hike since June 2002.

The 5.4% increase will apply to regular rate periodicals. That decision was supported by most major mailers and associations representing them, including American Business Media, Magazine Publishers of America and Direct Marketing Association.
