PromoOrder says industry future lives in a data warehouse

Austin,, one of several Internet companies out to gain a share of the $15 billion promotional products industry, said Wednesday that it has signed an alliance with the Promotional Products Association International to develop a data warehouse capable of creating standard descriptions of thousands of corporate gifts. The company said it will make its database services available to any of the thousands of wholesale companies producing T-shirts, pens and more expensive items that carry a company logo. Distributors will then have access to the repository to fulfill the needs of corporate marketers. The move is the latest in a series of Web innovations in the promotional products industry, which is deemed ripe for Internet development because it involves a very large, fragmented supplier base and just a few powerful distribution companies.
