Qwest names new CFO

Denver--Qwest Communications International Inc., the telecom company whose share price has fallen 87% this year, Monday named Oren Shaffer as CFO. Shaffer, who also will be vice chairman of Qwest, the biggest local phone service provider in 14 western states, succeeds Robin Szeliga, who will stay at Qwest to focus on reducing its $26.4 billion in debt. Joseph Nacchio stepped down as Qwest's CEO last month after the company's shares plunged amid a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission accounting probe.
