Salary survey finds marketers better compensated in some markets

Boston—Marketers in cities such as Atlanta, Dallas and St. Louis are better compensated, on a market-adjusted basis, than their counterparts in Boston, New York and the Silicon Valley when cost of living is factored in, according to global staffing company Aquent and the American Marketing Association's “2013 Aquent AMA Marketing Salary Survey.” Silicon Valley had the highest average marketing salary at $107,802, but when adjusted for cost of living, relative compensation became $48,034, the survey found. Dallas marketing professionals had an average salary of $82,418, which when adjusted was $89,707, Aquent said. The survey, which was based on responses from 2,600 marketers and conducted online in November, also found that 25% of respondents predicted social media marketing will be the most in-demand job in 2013. Closely following, 21% anticipated online content creation will be most in-demand, and 17% projected that brand or product management will top the list. Social media and mobile marketing are expected to be the hottest jobs in the next two to three years, the survey found.
