But attendance numbers at the steady-growth show dropped 15% last year. “We are seeing a bit of the effect [of the economy],” she said. Exhibitor comment: “We're not like other manufacturers that can carry our products on the road,” said Howie Cooperstein, VP of furniture company Bell'O International. “This gets all the major buyers in one place at one time.” Breakdown: The economy made a dent in 2008 attendance, and exhibitors began to scale back the size of booths for the 2009 show. Bell'O dropped its space by 20%, to 1,600 sq. ft. But the move does not indicate a drop of interest in CEDIA, Cooperstein said. “We know why attendance was down,” he said, pointing to the economy. CEDIA organizers will move this year's show to the [Atlanta] Georgia World Congress Center, near a regional concentration of members that could boost attendance. Organizers waived some in-house fees and have worked with service contractors to keep exhibiting costs down. —C.W.
