Study: Competition is fierce for advertising/marketing jobs

Menlo Park, Calif.—The competition is heated for those pursuing work in marketing fields, with executives interviewing an average of seven candidates for every open position, according to a new study from marketing staffing services company the Creative Group.

The company’s “Creative Group Hiring Index for Marketing and Advertising Professionals” was based on more than 500 telephone interviews of client-side marketers and agency executives. While hiring is expected to increase in the third quarter, employers have become more exacting in their hiring decisions, the study found.

“The interview is a crucial time for job seekers to distinguish themselves by speaking passionately about their previous accomplishments, asking thoughtful questions about the company and role, and making positive connections with everyone they come across during the process,” said Donna Farrugia, executive director of Creative Group, in a statement.
