Survey: Customer acquisition tops marketer concerns

White Plains, N.Y.—Cost-effectively acquiring new customers to grow their business is the biggest issue facing b-to-b marketers, according to a survey by database management company MeritDirect. Thirty-eight percent of respondents to the "2010 Anonymous Survey of B2B Conditions" said customer acquisition was of highest concern. The second-biggest concern, cited by 33% of respondents, is finding new ways to grow business profitably. When asked to predict the state of the economy this year, 44% said it would improve, 51% said it would be comparable to 2009, and 5% said it would worsen. The survey was sent via mail and e-mail in December and January to 137 C-level marketing executives from among MeritDirect customers. It generated 39 responses.
