Name: Charlie Baker
Title: President-CEO
Company: Babcock & Jenkins, Portland, Ore.
Goal: "Continue to strengthen with additional services for the long term. There is a valuable service to looking at other opportunities."
Charlie Baker spent the mid- to late ‘90s as Nike Inc.’s general manager of global retail, marketing sneakers everywhere from London to Tokyo. On his watch, the company’s global retail sales shot from $200 million to $1.1 billion. Today, as the new president-CEO of b-to-b direct marketing firm Babcock & Jenkins, he is again focused on growth.

Babcock & Jenkins, which develops direct marketing sales platforms for clients such as Hewlett-Packard Co. and Siemens AG, has had 75% compound annual revenue growth for the last five years, reaching $18.5 million last year. The slowing economy notwithstanding, Baker is keen on keeping that record intact. “It’s about continuing to innovate business opportunities so we can stay on this very aggressive growth path,” he said.

Achieving this means raising Babcock & Jenkins’ profile, Baker said. "I would like the rest of the world to know we are a leading company,” he said. “We have not done much marketing of Babcock & Jenkins."

Baker intends to change that. To help in that effort, the company is currently seeking a head of marketing, a new position, he said.
