Thomson completes $17.2 billion acquisition of Reuters

New York—Thomson Corp. announced Thursday that it has completed its $17.2 billion acquisition of Reuters Group, forming Thomson Reuters.

The merged global information company targets professionals in the accounting, financial, health care, legal, media, scientific and tax sectors.

Thomson’s news and financial information unit, Thomson Financial, has been combined with Reuters to form Thomson Reuters Markets. The remaining divisions of Thomson (Thomson Healthcare, Thomson Legal, Thomson Scientific and Thomson Tax & Accounting) are now operating as Thomson Reuters Professional.

Thomson Reuters on Thursday launched a global advertising campaign. The company has operations in more than 90 countries. Its 2007 pro forma revenue totaled $12.4 billion.

Thomas H. Glocer, previously CEO of Reuters, is CEO of Thomson Reuters. David Thomson, who was chairman of Thomson, is chairman of the merged company.
