Thomson Media Group put on the block

Stamford, Conn.--Confirming speculation that had been swirling for months, Thomson Corp. officially announced Monday that it is seeking potential buyers for its Thomson Media Group, which covers financial services and related tech markets.

The unit had revenue of $170 million last year.

Among the publications on the block are American Banker, The Bond Buyer, National Mortgage News and DM Review. "While Thomson Media magazines and businesses possess extraordinary brand equity, strong and loyal customer bases, and talented employees, these businesses do not provide the type of synergies that strengthen the core electronic information businesses within Thomson," said Jim Malkin, CEO of Thomson Media Group, in a statement.

Thomson had put its media group on the block in 2001 but pulled it off the market when the bids weren’t to its liking.
