TNS forecasts 5.4% ad increase for 2006

New York—Total U.S. advertising will reach $152.3 billion this year, up 5.4% over 2005, according to a new forecast by TNS Media Intelligence.

Total advertising grew an estimated 3.0% in 2005 over 2004, TNS said.

According to the report, advertising will grow by 5.0% during the first half of this year and will increase by 5.7% during the second half.

Steven Fredericks, president-CEO of TNS, said growth this year will be driven by events such as the Winter Olympics and midterm elections, as well as stronger economic growth.

Media categories showing the strongest growth in 2006 will be Internet, cable TV and Hispanic network television, TNS projects.
