Twitter redesign unveiled

San Francisco—Social microblogging site Twitter unveiled a new design Thursday that provides more transparency into how the social media platform works, along with news and entertainment feeds designed to keep users on the site longer. A “Discover” tab at the top of the redesigned site offers news based on users' online activities and location. There also are new, more illustrative icons indicating the home page, ongoing conversations, search items and a means to compose a message. Clicking a message reveals an entire thread, including photos, responses and retweets. For companies, the redesign offers a new profile page where they can highlight a special product or company feature. Previously the page displayed only a company's most recent Tweets. The new design was rolled out to Android and Apple smartphones initially, and will be available gradually to PC Web users.
