Twitter tests geo-targeted tweet ads

San Francisco—Twitter has begun testing geo-targeted versions of its Promoted Products marketing platform, which would allow marketers to customize Twitter ad placements by region.

The feature is being offered as a test to marketers already using Promoted Accounts, which suggests businesses people don't currently follow and may find interesting, as well as Promoted Tweets, which are paid tweets based on keyword searches within Twitter.

According to The Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital blog, which first reported the story, marketers can tailor their ads by country or, inside the U.S., down to the city level.
