UBM posts increased profit, revenue

London—United Business Media, publisher of InformationWeek, reported its operating profit increased 18.6%, to $72.6 million, in its first quarter compared with the year-earlier period. In the same time frame, revenue increased 7.5%, to $386.7 million.

Revenue from UBM's event business, fueled by its Canon Communications acquisition, increased to $136.8 million, up 15.9%. Revenue for UBM's print businesses fell to $51.5 million, a 13.1% decline.

“We have actually moved into a phase [of] structural growth even when considering how our traditional print business does slow us down,” UBM CEO David Levin said in an interview with BtoB.
