UBM wins judgment in Chinese court over trade show

San Francisco—United Business Media said Tuesday that it won a judgment earlier this month in the Shanghai Lu Wan District People's Law Court of the People's Republic of China against defendants Publishers Association of China Game Publication Committee (CGPA) and Beijing Howell International Trade Fair Co. The court ruled the two organizations misrepresented themselves as the original organizers of UBM's Game Developer Conference trade show in China.

The crux of the case involved CGPA and Howell launching the China Game Developers Conference in 2009 after each organization worked only as a "supporting unit" on UBM's similarly named Game Developers Conference China two years earlier.

The court ordered both CGPA and Howell to cease their "unfair competition" against UBM. Additionally, CGPA was ordered to publish a statement on its website clarifying its role in the 2007 Game Developer Conference China.
