Vance consolidates food-related assets, to sell three titles

Lincolnshire, Ill.—Vance Publishing Corp. announced Tuesday that it placing three publications on the block: Cotton Farming, The Peanut Grower and Rice Farming. The planned divestitures are part of a move to consolidate the company’s food-related assets into a single business unit.

Bill Newham, a 25-year veteran with the company, has been named senior VP and will direct the consolidated business unit out of Vance’s offices in Lenexa, Kan.

The new business unit will have two divisions. The produce segment, which includes The Packer and Produce Merchandising and other properties, will be led by Robb Bertels, VP-publishing director. The animal foods segment, whose titles include Drovers and Pork, will be led by Cliff Becker, VP-publishing director.

"This initiative will accelerate Vance’s ability to generate growth, both from within the existing food and agriculture properties, and through more targeted product development and acquisition strategies," Chairman Bill Vance said in a statement.
