Sunnyvale, Calif.—Yahoo! Local announced Wednesday a new service that enables small businesses to go to Yahoo!’s site and create their own Web site using step-by-step instructions and templates provided by the ISP.
The service will be integrated with Yahoo! Local, a local search engine.
"The primary objective is to start establishing small-business relationships so we can extend them more services down the road," said Paul Levine, general manager of Yahoo! Local.
One analyst noted the move benefits Yahoo! on several levels. "It serves multiple goals," said Greg Sterling, analyst at the Kelsey Group. "It gives Yahoo! more content; it gives them the relationship over time to sell them more services; and it taps into Overture as well."
